In layman terms, it is the automated execution of human actions carried out by a computer software configured into a metallic body named a robot or a bot.

A robot here is simply a programmable machine that resembles a human being and is able to replicate the human movements automatically to some extent. 

A bot on the other hand is computer software that performs automated tasks over the internet. It performs those tasks that are simple and repetitive but at a much higher speed than a human can do.
