In today’s time, emoji becomes a kind of language to add an emotional nuance to our flat, simple text. People are using it to express their idea, emotion, etc.
➥What is emoji?
Emoji is a small icon used to express notion, emotion, feelings in a very short and simple manner.
The word emoji is formed by a combination of two words :
‘e’ means picture and ‘moji’ means character.
➥History of emoji
Earlier in 1999, Shigetaka Kurita got an idea to create a character code that would display as an icon on the other phone, and hence emoji was born.
It was initially for DoCoMo and later on became popular in entire Japan.
Later on, Apple decided to adopt this feature and hence in 2011 it officially added the emoji keyboard to iOS devices.
The main idea was to show ideas and emotions in a single icon instead of typing.
Let’s say if someone asks you – What is the weather over there? Instead of typing sunny or cloudy, you can simply use 🌧 & ☀️this.
Today 92% of people are using emoji more and more in their daily lives.
There are thousands of emoji depicting people in all their diversity, and thousands more to represent the things we interact within our world: money💰, prayer beads 📿, Watch⌚.
Even on Instagram mainly posts and memes contain emoji. With the increasing use of emoji, new emojis are being added every year and now for almost everything, every action there is an emoji available with us.
If someone wants to convey a message of Hello then simply uses this 🖐️, if people want to say it’s awesome then they are using this👌👌
Thus emoji is like becoming a new digital language that is doing the task of people easy. It indicates the meaning or message of a person in just 1 or 2 icons rather than typing it in so many lines.
In the future, as the world becomes increasingly digital and increasingly globalized, emoji will become an important tool for translation and communication—a lingua franca for the digital age.
